Tools 8: Change Management
All the management tools referred to in our previous pages imply significant changes in the way things are done in the organization. Thus, it is important to understand the principles of Change Management, to explain why change projects sometimes fail, in order to reach a successful conclusion. Below we give an introduction to this topic.
Our Change Management methodology follows the steps described by Dr John Kotter in his seminal text "Leading Change". The steps are:
.

Nancy Fortner, Principal of Malaysia's Fortner Consulting Group, is a leading subject matter expert in Change Management.
Richard Thomson, of Scotland's TW Associates, is a leading Innovation subject matter expert.
The Roles of Adaptation and Innovation
Once the change vision has been defined and action starts in implementing the change, sometimes significant obstructions emerge. Our experience tells us that if we cannot change our existing procedures to overcome an obstruction, then we should innovate to find a way around it.
For innovation, we an use the Ucello TM process for non-stop creativity from our partners at TW Associates

Maintaining the Change
Once a change initiative is completed, we need to institutionalize it to prevent reversion to the familiar territory of old customs. This process is depicted in the graphic below:

Mapping the Progress of the Change
In those cases where approval for the next steps in a change process require approval from busy people, we need a system of communicating the status graphically, as shown below.
